This week we talk with Steven Fox. His approach is best described as cross-disciplinary; combining his experience in information technology with principles from behavioral/organizational psychology. In this podcast, Steven discusses his views on Detroit, what he is doing to launch BSides Detroit 2012, and his talk on social engineering.
This panel started based on several tweets. The first tweet was about
Nerds and Male Privilege. It was in regards to how women were treated in nerd culture.
The next tweet to catch my eye was one about the treatment of a female guest on an InfoSec related podcast. Specifically “The Social Engineering Podcast” episode 27. The tweet led to a discussion about how the podcasts were male dominated, and there seemed to be a tokenization affect when women were included.
This week we talk to the artist making the new logo for Bsides Detroit: Michael Galligan

The panel on male privilege in infosec is going to happen Friday the 13th at 7pm. We’ve managed to get a very impressive panel.
There will be a LIVE stream on our Ustream channel, there will be a chat room on Ustream and FreeNode for the panel, and we will have a twitter hash tag. We’re hoping for audience participation, we will be moderating and editing questions from the listeners. More information will be provided Friday.
The show is going to moderated by Joanna (@onemanicninja), with Justin and Chris trying to field the questions.
See you all Friday (the 13th Duh duh dun!) at 7.
No Justin on this spin. But he did do a great job on some of the editing. This episode has Wolf (aka Jdub @jwgoerlich) our BSide’s interviewer.
This episode is a peak behind the curtain on Bsides Detroit, and how and why it is the way it is. What changes are coming, and where the original Organizers want to see it to go.
So join us as we talk with Kyle C and Ryan H as the four of us talk about Detroit’s Security Conference. If you want to contact the BSides Detroit organizers bsidesdetroit [at] gmail [dot] com.
Episode 002 should go live Wednesday Jan 11. Where we talk to the person creating the new logo to help brand Bsides Detroit.
